At the start of the season not many people had the Boston Bruins penciled in as Stanley Cup contenders, however that's all changed now thanks to December which saw them go 10-2-2.

The Bruins now sit tied with the Toronto Maple Leafs for second place in the Atlantic with four games in hand.

With all that in mind, a website called Money Puck which uses a very detailed algorithm which includes a variety of factors now have the Bruins sitting as the Stanley Cup favourites.

The site's algorithm predicts the team to finish second overall in the league with 111 points and enjoying a 13.9% chance of winning the Stanley Cup a full 3.9% chance higher than the Tampa Bay Lighting who were the next closest team.

Obviously it's still extremely early to try and predict a Stanley Cup winner and even who will sit on top of the league come end of season, but it's still good to know that the Bruins are starting to earn the respect they deserve for what they've put together recently.

However, as much as analytics and advanced stats are fun to look at, we all know the games still need to be played and the Stanley Cup playoffs are usually decided by bad bounces on the ice.
