If you ask the accounting department, they will tell you that Tuukka Rask is the Boston Bruins number one goaltender. However, if you look at the stat sheet, you might not think that.
Rask has lost each of his last four starts, while Anton Khudobin has won his last four starts and has yet to lose in regulation this season.
Head coach Bruce Cassidy was asked after Tuesday’s morning skate if the starting goaltender job was up for grabs as we head into December.
“I don’t know if I’d got that far,” replied Cassidy, per Matt Kalman. “What I would say is we’re not afraid to use either goaltender right now. There’s no exact sciences to this. We’re trying to put the best one in every night that we feel is best for the team ... and then still keep the individual in mind without one sitting longer than necessary. I guess that’s the best way to put it for us.
“Tuukka’s our number one; Anton’s our backup. Our backup has played really well and he’s pushing our No. 1. And we wanted that. So hopefully our number one gets his game up here where they’re both playing at the top of their game.”
Even though Cassidy called Rask the number one goaltender, he would not confirm who starts versus the Tampa Bay Lightning tomorrow night.
